Electric vehicles are becoming more popular all over the world. In India, we have both two and four wheeler manufacturers who are entering this space. Latest news comes from Ola. The brand plans to launch an electric scooter in the market which will compete with the likes of Ather, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak in the segment. Ola plans to manufacture this new electric scooter in India. They will be setting up their manufacturing facility in Hosur Tamil Nadu. Ola will have a facility that is spread across 500 acres of land. Here we have a video that shares all the information regarding the Ola and their upcoming electric scooter.
The video has been uploaded by e-wheeler YouTube channel. The vlogger talks about all the information that is available about the Ola electric scooter. Ola acquired a Netherland based electric scooter company named as Etergo and Ola Electric will be using the design of one of their models. The scooter looks quite futuristic in terms of design and has several features too.
Before we talks about the scooter, the plant or the manufacturing facility that Ola electric will be setting up in Tamil Nadu will directly or indirectly provide employment for over 10,000 people. The facility will use advanced AI techniques to manufacture the scooters. The video also mentions that Ola electric plans to manufacture a maximum of 2 lakh units of electric scooter in an year. The facility can assemble 25,000 electric motors per day.
One of the main concern that most of the EV owners or people who wish to buy an electric vehicle have is the lack of charging infrastructure. Ola plans to work on that issue and resolve this problem by installing 1 lakh charging stations in 400 cities. They will also be installing hyper charging stations. These hyper charging stations will be initially installed in major metro cities.
Coming to the scooter, it will come with a 7 inch touchscreen display. The screen will show all the important information related to the scooter and will also have GPS, Navigation, 4G connectivity features and will also support calling feature and Youtube. The scooter also has keyless entry, find my scooter and many more features. If something goes wrong with the scooter, it will automatically diagnose the whole vehicle and send a report to you and the service center.
Ola electric scooter will be available in three different variants. There will be basic, mid and high end variant. The difference between these scooters will be the motor and the riding range. The basic version is expected to get a 2Kw motor, mid version gets a 4Kw motor and the higher variant will get a 7 Kw motor. It is not known whether, the motor will be separate or mounted on the hub. The motor will draw its power from a 3.5 KwH battery pack which will be neatly placed under the floor.
The basic version will have a top speed of 45 kmph, the Mid variant will have a top speed of 70 kmph and higher variant will have 95 kmph top speed. The scooter is expected to have a maximum riding range of 240 kms on full charge but, in order to achieve that, the rider will have to ride it at a speed of 20 kmph which is not practical. In real world conditions, Ola electric scooter is expected to have a range of 130-150 kms. It takes 5.5 hrs to charge the batteries completely from a normal plug point at home.
If you charge it from charging station, it takes around 2.5 hrs to completely charge. It only takes 18 minutes to recharge 50 percent of batteries from a hyper charging station. The scooter will also send notification to your phone when the scooter is fully charged. The Ola electric scooter is expected to be launched in India by the end of this year and the expected price of this scooter is between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh.
